White Sauce, also know as Bechamél Sauce is often used in Italian dishes. There are many variations of this sauce. Once the basic sauce is made one can add any variety of cheese or herbs or a combinations or herbs or cheese.
It is really very versatile & can be used as a dip & may also be used on pizza. It makes a nice change, a white base, instead ot the usual marinara sauce on pizzas. The main ingredients are milk, butter and flour.
The last 2 ingredients are usually the same amounts, weight wise. I often adapt recipes to make them quick and easy and this is what I have done with the white sauce recipe.
I also prefer using the microwave to make the sauce, timing it every 30 seconds and as it thickens every 15 seconds. I generally add cheese to the white sauce, making it a cheese sauce
You may also use half water and half milk. Sometimes I use the water in which vegetables have been boiled, like Cauliflower au Gratin. In this recipe the cauliflower is boiled before the white sauce is added. Experiment with combinations that you come up with and please do share your recipes.
